Educational Facilities
Citrus County School System is among the top-rated systems in Florida. Overall, our students have consistently ranked as top achievers among Florida's 67 counties. Graduates from Citrus County's fully accredited high schools leave not only with a diploma, but well-prepared for the world of work or college.

Citrus County has over 15,000 students housed in dept-free, attractive, modern facilities. There are nine elementary schools (Pre-K - 5), four middle schools grades (6 - 8), three high schools, an exceptional education center, and a technical institute, Withlacoochee Technical Institute, that serves as both a secondary and postsecondary institution. The center works closely with local businesses and industry to prepare potential employees that meet the needs of our new and expanding industries.

Following graduation, students have the oportunity to continue on to a postsecondary program at WTI or a two-year college degree at the Central Florida Communiyt College's Citrus County Campus. Students may also complete a Bachelor's Degree in Business or Elementary Education in Citrus County Through St. Leo College.

Students in Citrus County Schools are regularly assessed so thay can be compared with students throughout the state and nation. As can be seen by the following examples, by any standard, Citrus County students are excelling academically.

Students are given the High School Compentency Test(HSCT) to assess whether or not they have the basic skills in communication and mathematics required for high shcool graduation. Citrus County consistently ranks in the top five districts in florida when comparing the percentage of students passing the HSCT with the other 66 counties.

Students in grades two through eight are given the IOWA TEST OF BASIC SKILLS(ITBS)in the spring of each year to compare our students's achievement levels to the nation. Test results are reported to the state at the fourth and eight grade levels.

Business and Education Partnerships are strongly encouraged in Citrus Countty. Also, each school has an advisory enhancement council to insure that parents, teachers, students and citizens have a strong voice in the affairs of schools.
